Little girl hurt after car strikes pole… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – A young girl was sent to CCH after the car she was traveling in suddenly left the roadway and struck a utility pole on Walton Ave this morning.
At about 9:00AM, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to the single car accident which shut down Walton Ave for a period of time. There were low hanging wires and the pole needed repairs. Power lines and hookups to the residences appeared to holding up at the time of this report.
A little boy who heard the loud crash told HN he knew the little girl from his neighborhood and was relieved when he learned she would probably be okay. Sources say the girl was very frightened while being attended to by first responders. Her injuries did not appear life-threatening and she was transported to CCH for further care and evaluation.
The Hyundai appeared totaled.
The exact cause of the crash remains uncertain and Barnstable Police are still investigating.
HN NOTE: Judging from the damage, there was significant impact and very likely little, if any, braking before striking the pole. Airbags and other vehicle safety equipment likely prevented more serious and lasting injuries…
