HN PHOTOS: Tense traffic stop…

MARSTONS MILLS – Back up Barnstable Police units were called to assist one of their patrolmen with a traffic stop that was becoming a tense situation. The stop happened on Route 28 at around 3:30 a.m. earlier in the week. HN arrived on scene and took the following photos…
The first HN photo shows a 41-year-old man from Providence being arrested for “LICENSE SUSPENDED, OP MV WITH LICENSE NOT IN POSSESSION,” according to the police log. A 41-year-old female had also just been arrested on a “DEFAULT WARRANT” prior to this photo. The man was not happy with officers, saying they were harassing him because of the color of his skin. The arresting officer explained that Massachusetts motor vehicle laws are applied equally to everyone. The man disagreed. Officers on scene remained calm and professional.
The rest of the photos show an interaction between officers and the only remaining occupant of the vehicle. The passenger reportedly did not have a valid drivers license or else the vehicle could have been released to him. When asked, the passenger was reluctant to get out of the vehicle prior to it being towed. Officers were reportedly concerned he was becoming combative. A police sergeant on scene offered to give a man a ride to his destination. The man refused the ride and began filming officers with his phone. Officers were not concerned about being filmed (as no one should be these days). The remaining passenger was picked at up at the traffic stop by friends. The arresting officer politely explained what was going on and what to do next to a female who arrived on scene to pick up the passenger…
The scene ultimately ended peacefully… and everyone got some camera shots in, including HN.
