Numerous vehicles slid off local highways last evening… [VIDEO]
SANDWICH – HN initially responded to the Mid Cape Highway last evening for a report of a car sliding off the road and hitting a pole on the westbound side at Exit 4. That accident was not serious and there were no reported injuries.
But from that point on, things only became worse…
Moments later a state trooper reported black ice conditions on the eastbound side of the highway near Exit 3. He requested to have Mass Highway send out sanders right after he pulled off to assist another vehicle which had slid off the roadway. There were no injuries.
The following brief video was shot from the Exit 3 overpass on Route 6 last evening before 10pm. It shows a trooper off with two vehicles that had just slid off the roadway. Conditions were treacherous and it was even difficult to walk across the frozen pavement. HN left the area soon after this short video was shot as cars were nearly sliding off the road on the overpass on which I was standing. [Press play]
Over the next couple hours, state police had their hands full responding to black ice related accidents on Route 6 and Route 3 at the exits nearest to the Sagamore Bridge. There were not any serious injuries as of this report... but vehicles had left the roadway. One car was said to have slid into the trees. Another vehicle was said to have rolled over a guard rail...
