For Barnstable Police Detective Kevin Connolly, it was an opportunity to utilize a brand new specially designed police drone. The drone is a cost effective alternative to a police helicopter and can be deployed in dangerous weather conditions without putting pilots at risk.
The drone is equipped with a powerful rotating camera system which has thermal imaging capabilities (FLIR).
For Detective Connolly, the drone is a new cost effective tool which greatly enhances the Barnstable Police Department’s response capabilities during a wide range of applications.
The following video shows the BPD Drone in the middle of today’s mission. It shows it taking off and then landing when a state police helicopter moved into the immediate area to assist with the search.
