Friday 9/26/2014 UPDATE: The following is the latest press release from the BPD…
On 9/25/14, Barnstable Police Officers responded to a report of a bank robbery at the TD Bank on Main Street in Osterville. A preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 5:20 PM, a single suspect entered the bank wearing a mask and sunglasses. The suspect approached one of the tellers, made a threatening statement, and demanded money. After receiving an undetermined amount of money, the suspect left the bank. The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, brown/black hair, approximately 5’10” tall with a thin build. The suspect was wearing jeans and a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

Surveillance video obtained by Detectives captured the suspect entering and exiting the bank… Detectives are also interested in talking with two potential witnesses to include the operators and/or owners of two motor vehicles that were driving by the bank at the time of the robbery (5:20PM). The vehicles are described as a dark colored full size SUV such as a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon, and a full size pick-up truck with diamond plate tool boxes on each side of the bed.

Anyone with information on the suspect and/or vehicles is asked to contact Detective Valerie Hemmila at 508-778-3818 or hemmilav@barnstablepolice.com.
OSTERVILLE – At about 5:25pm, Barnstable Police responded to the TD Bank at 835 Main Street after it reportedly had been robbed.
According to sources, a white male entered the bank with his face covered by a bandana. No weapon was shown… and witnesses were unsure whether he fled on foot or in a vehicle.
Numerous Barnstable patrol units, including at least one state trooper, saturated the area and set up a perimeter.
A BPD K-9 unit arrived within minutes and began a track which initially led to the rear of the bank…
An alert patrolman spotted a 28-year-old man who fit the suspect’s description about a block away from the bank. Upon closer inspection he noticed the man was wearing some type of court adjudicated ankle bracelet. A record check revealed the suspicious man had a criminal history which included armed robbery while masked. Several patrol units responded to provide backup at the Hess Express on Main Street…

… but believe it or not, the man was eventually ruled out as a likely suspect in this particular robbery.
Although the K-9 track did not lead to the suspect, it provide information regarding the likely direction of travel.
Detectives responded and began looking at the positioning of various nearby store security cameras. At least one owner responded to reopen his store in hopes of helping detectives find an image of the suspect.
Investigators are actively working the case and are unable to provide many more details at this time.
HN will provide updates as they become available.
