OUI ARREST: Officers observed driver “not from America” leave scene after flattening street sign…
HYANNIS – It’s a good thing nobody was run over and killed in the East End last evening, because I doubt this driver would have stopped…
… or even realized it.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, shortly after the local drinking establishments closed early Sunday morning, officers and firefighters were busy scraping another gravity challenged drunk off the pavement in the area of Center Street when there was a sudden loud crash. A sign had been flattened and the vehicle suspected of running into it did not stop, but instead continued on driving away without its headlights on…
A Barnstable Police Officer quickly sprung into action, jumping behind the wheel and catching up to the fleeing vehicle about 2 blocks away on Charles Street.
The driver apparently failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OUI. During the FSTs, the driver told the officer he was not from America (not that that matters)… likely disclosing this because he was having some difficulty with the verbal portion of the testing.
Further details were not readily available at the time of this report, but the following HN Video documents the scene, starting with HN Dashcam footage of the vehicle driving away (without its headlights on) from where the sign was flattened…

HN NOTE: Please do not put yourself and others at risk by driving impaired! It’s a lot cheaper to pay for a cab than court fees and damages from lawsuits…
Plus, do you really want to potentially kill somebody? (Not to mention become the focus of an HN Video?)
P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Tom Waits… [CRANK IT! Try. not. to. be. Frank! 😉 ]
You’d be surprised who can read HN and not let it get them down…
