Police and firefighters investigating suspicious fire… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – At about 5:45PM, police and firefighters rushed toward an outdoor fire behind a clothing store at 590 Main Street. The fire was quickly extinguished.
According to BPD Lieutenant Michael Clark, the fire involved a bunch of cardboard boxes contained in a small fenced in area behind the store.
The building was not damaged, but part of the stockade fence was charred.
Police and firefighters spoke with witnesses and are investigating the small fire as being suspicious. Sergeant John York, a Barnstable Police arson investigator also responded to the scene. The scene was photographed by a police identification officer from the Barnstable Sheriff’s Department.
The following brief video highlights the scene moments after police and firefighters arrived…

Dennis Patrol Officers sent to wrangle a couple of uncooperative asses…
SOUTH DENNIS – At about 4:45PM, two Dennis police squad cars were dispatched to investigate a report of two donkeys walking down the middle of Setucket Road near the Brewster town line. Upon arrival, officers learned the asses were being stubborn and uncooperative, even giving their handler a hard time.
An animal control officer was unavailable at the time of the call, so officers did their best to handle the situation…
Needless to say, HN also began to drive toward Setucket Road in Dennis to thoroughly document this important breaking news. While en route, HN called the DPD dispatch to confirm that I was not hearing things… and they most patiently affirmed that I was not.
HN was zeroing in on the scene right when a patrol officer radioed they had somehow managed corral the wayward beasts, leaving them where they belonged, at a farm on Setucket Road. (Note: The first rule of photojournalism is that it’s impossible to win them all.)
No further information was available at the time of this report.

Heroin overdose patient revived with Narcan…

HYANNIS – At about 7:30PM last evening, police and rescue workers responded to a residence on High School Road to help a man who had overdosed on heroin. Upon arrival, first responders learned the man’s girlfriend had already administered Narcan. The man was responsive and sitting up inside the ambulance prior to being transported to CCH.
At approximately the same time, Hyannis FD had to call for a mutual aid ambulance to respond to the Cape Cod Mall for another overdose. The overdose patient was located in front of the Not Your Average Joe’s restaurant. The male patient needed to be transported to CCH after “huffing” chemicals.
At about 1:32AM, there was another overdose at an address on Barnstable Road. In that case, Narcan had also already been administered prior to police and rescue arriving. The patient was reportedly breathing and alert…

HN NOTE: Has there been an improvement in the frequency of overdoses in the mid-Cape area? Sometimes it seems better… other times it even seems worse. HN has reached out to obtain hard statistics and will present that important information as soon as possible.
