UPDATE – SUNDAY, 5/19/2019 @ 1:30PM: Sources close to the young boy and this incident describe a reported possible kidnapping attempt…
WEST YARMOUTH – The YPD has not yet been able to release official details, but the following details were relayed to HN by sources close to the boy and alleged incident…
Shortly before 4:00 p.m., a young boy arrived at a friends house out of breath. The child told an adult about what appeared to be an attempted kidnapping. The adult called 911 and the young boy eventually spoke with the female dispatcher and told her some of the details he could remember. Officers were dispatched to the area of Cottage Lane and the Dollar General store for what was described as a possible kidnapping attempt.
Yarmouth Police Officers quickly arrived at an address in the area of Cottage Lane. Officers were told about a male suspect with a shaved head and beard, wearing olive green shorts. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a brown van or minivan which had been parked further back in the parking lot. The van reportedly had the sliding door behind the passenger seat slightly open.
Responding officers did not find the suspect vehicle in the parking lot when they arrived on scene at the Dollar General store where the incident reportedly occurred.
Officers investigated a brown Jeep, but determined the subject belonging to the Jeep was not involved.
THE INCIDENT: The man who belonged to the van reportedly had been standing outside the store when he began to follow alongside the child with his arm reportedly behind the boy. The stranger allegedly asked the boy if he wanted to go to the back of his car for “candy.”
The boy reportedly stated the man had what he described as a “Spanish” accent of some sort.
Feeling nervous, the child suddenly ducked under the man’s arm, turned and ran in the opposite direction across Route 28.
As you will see in the following HN Video, police are taking this incident very seriously and are investigating the possibility of there being surveillance footage…
