Pursuit Ends on Centerville Cranberry Bog; 15-Year-Old Facing Criminal Charges [Photo Notes]

At approximately 2:30 a.m., a patrolman in an unmarked cruiser attempted a traffic stop near Pleasant Pines Avenue and Huckins Neck Road. The driver failed to stop, leading officers on a chase through winding back roads at times exceeding the posted speed limit. Officers were preparing to terminate the pursuit for safety reasons when the vehicle turned onto the bog access path near the end of Lakeview Drive. The chase ended roughly a quarter-mile out on the opposite side of the bog, where a teenage male fled into the woods on foot.
Using license plate information and prior contacts with police, officers quickly identified a 15-year-old male suspect and located him at a nearby residence after speaking with his grandfather. Following an investigation, the 15-year-old is being summoned to court on criminal motor vehicle charges. The vehicle was later removed from the bog by the grandfather and the juvenile.
The initial details are based on radio transmissions and information from police sources. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
