SEAFOOD HEIST: Police looking for man who pedaled off with 15 live lobsters… [UPDATED WITH SURVEILLANCE IMAGES]
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – When the clerk at the checkout counter asked the man if he was going to pay, he reportedly replied, ‘You know what? No, I’m not.”
The suspect then quickly exited the store with 15 live lobsters, hopped on a bicycle and pedaled away.
At about 10:19AM, Barnstable squad cars responded to the Star Market at 625 West Main Street to investigate a shoplifting of what initially was reported as “about 4 lobsters… somewhere on him…”
… police soon learned it was actually a total of 15 lobsters stolen, 8 of which were of the “chicken” variety, all valued at approximately $250 in total.
The suspect reportedly entered the store and approached the lobster tank at the seafood counter, where a grocer packed-up 15 live crustaceans, for someone whom he believed was a paying customer.
The would-be lobster thief then went through a checkout line at the front of the store where he made his nefarious intentions quite clear before fleeing without paying.
The seafood bandit is described as a white male, about 6’2” tall, approximately age 25 to 30-years-old, with some facial hair, and wearing a red or maroon hooded sweatshirt.
While fleeing eastward on West Main Street on a bicycle, the suspect is said to have slipped on a green jacket over the sweatshirt. The suspect was also said to have been wearing light colored jeans and black shoes or sneakers.
Police are investigating store surveillance footage and HN will possibly update this story with images when they become available….
The theft is being investigated by Barnstable Patrolman Brian Morrison. Anyone with information can contact the BPD at 508-775-0387, extension 8.
