SHOCK VIDEO: Homeless shooting up on town green… Chief delivers hard facts… Cullum steps it up for her constituents…
HN NOTES: Barnstable Town Councilor Jennifer Cullum came alive last evening for her Hyannis constituents, and it was refreshing to see!
HN would love to see more passion from Hyannis residents at future town meetings, because for decades we have been getting a raw deal when it comes to being the only place in the region shouldering the costs and burdens of having a growing outpatient ward and homeless slum in our backyards.
We also need to get rid of any town officials who don’t quite “get it,” and waste our time with ridiculous actions and rhetoric that do not address the real issues facing our children, families, and businesses.
The following is an excerpt from the 2013 HN mission statement: “We now have seen Hyannis at its worst; we fondly remember it at its best; an informed community is empowered to decide which direction it wants to take from this point forward.
HN does not enjoy covering some of the horrible stark realities that have gone uncovered in local media for too many years. But it was absolutely something that needed to be done in order to wake people up to how close we are to a point of no return.
There is hope however, and last night, leaders like Councilor Cullum, Chief MacDonald, and others stood up to begin to put an end to a town-wide form of insanity that has been allowed to fester in the darkness for far too long.
The city of Hyannis is too wonderful a place to allow that to happen. It is also irrelevant that these issues occur in other places. That is no excuse to allow them to continue here. We need to raise the bar. We need to claim our right to make our city the nicest, cleanest, most family friendly, and prosperous city on the East Coast. With the right leadership, HN sees absolutely no reason why that could not happen in our near future.
We’ve been informed, and now find ourselves at an important crossroads. We can either stand up and take back control of our beloved home… or else we can watch outside agencies and confused political wannabees use our village as a playground for their dysfunctional ideas and self-centered agendas.
For decades, the people of Hyannis have been the only ones providing services for the region’s homeless and downtrodden. In a way, the rest of the Cape, Southeastern Massachusetts, and beyond have been taking advantage of our kind nature and patience.
Enough is enough. It’s time for the state and other communities to step up and share in the burdens that have been unfairly thrust upon the good people of Hyannis!
(And how dare anyone suggest the people of Hyannis do not care about the homeless, when in fact, we’ve been the only ones in the region doing so for decades… It’s high time for other towns to help!)
THIS IS A MUST SEE VIDEO: The following HN video begins with highlights of Barnstable Police Chief Paul MacDonald delivering hard facts and shocking video related to our worsening homeless situation. It starts with shocking images of homeless individuals shooting up drugs on the Hyannis Village Green right in front of town hall during broad daylight hours… The HN video then shows Councilor Cullum having the courage to say what has been needed to be said for far too long. Good for her! It then shows some of the comments from some of her constituents who are fed up and angry. There were so many great comments and points that it was difficult to edit down to a 20 minute segment, but the following HN coverage effectively captures the discourse as it relates to residents and long suffering downtown business interests.
