Sneaker deal gone bad… [Updated]
Hyannis – The introduction was made on craigslist.com…
… after concluding some terms, a meeting was arranged.
A 16-year-old male, along with his parents, was told to drive to the skate park next to the Community Youth Center, where they were instructed to dial a number.
A deal had been made; one pair of purple and yellow L.A. Laker style Nike Lebron sneakers in exchange for $80 cash.
Brand new, certain Nike Labrons can cost up to just shy of $300.
The 16-year-old’s parents became leery when the buyer requested to meet them on a dark side street.
In the area of Denver Street, the parents briefly let their guard down when they met the young man who wanted the sneakers.
Their son and the young man were out conducting business… when suddenly the young man pushed their son, grabbed the sneakers, ran, and escaped by jumping over a stockade fence.
Police met the stunned family waiting in their black pickup truck in the area of Denver Street where they explained what had just happened.
They were unfamiliar with the area, but managed to describe the robber and his direction of travel.
Police were looking for a male in his early 20s with tattoos on his neck.
Patrolman Troy Perry and his K-9 were called to start a track which led them in the direction of Hamden Circle.
A short while later, 9 Barnstable Police squad cars lined the street outside of 77 Hamden Circle. A residence which reportedly has had recent run-ins with the law regarding disturbances and illicit drugs…
Officers were directed to enter and help search the premises where they had a suspect, but could not find the sneakers.
A search of the residence was fruitless. The sneakers must have been elsewhere… but where?
The 16-year-old and his parents were requested back to the scene, where the 20-year-old suspect was positively identified as the man who strong armed the younger teen, stealing his expensive footwear.
The 20-year-old was placed in custody, but police still needed to locate the sneakers.
After well over an hour searching, the sneakers and other evidence was discovered several blocks away under a red pickup truck on Connemara Circle.
An evidence identification officer was called in to take photos while the suspect was transported back to police headquarters for booking.
Police are still withholding the 20-year-old’s name, but did mention he’ll be charged with Unarmed Robbery, which is a felony.
[11:30am Update] : The Barnstable Police have released that the arrested 20-year-old’s name is Conner Tynan and he was scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court this morning.
