Son of major N.E. Patriots sponsor from Cape arrested in Super Bowl LIII Sex Sting targeting perpetrators of internet crimes against children…
Mitchell Kennedy, son of the founders of Zudy software headquartered in Harwich – Cape Cod residents and major sponsors of the New England Patriots – had been on HN’s radar prior to the recent crash in Brewster where he is accused of leaving the scene…
Kennedy, a graduate of Nauset Regional High School, had also been recently arrested in a undercover Super Bowl Sex Sting, entitled “Operation Interception,” which targeted the perpetrators of internet crimes against children, according to multiple sources.
About two weeks ago on March 2nd, prior to the early morning single car crash in Brewster on March 3rd, where the driver left the scene, a confidential source with strong law enforcement ties, and an advocate for victims everywhere, contacted HN with details regarding allegations of a much more alarming crime…

………..
On March 2nd HN received the following typed tip from a confidential source who has delivered compelling information in the past:
“Interesting story here… Mitchell Kennedy is the son of Billionaire Trish Kennedy of Brewster, founder of Zudy Software… corporate sponsors of Patriots.”
The message included an image of Mitchell Kennedy’s Facebook page. There’s a photo of Kennedy lying in bed beside a young child and young woman. The picture appears to be a top Facebook photo, nothing unusual, apparently just a family type photo…
The image contained the normal Facebook stuff, saying Kennedy studied at Baruch College, went to Nauset Regional High, lives in New York, New York… and finally that he’s from Brewster, Massachusetts. (Still, nothing out of the ordinary thus far…)
But then the message also included a link to an 11 Alive (an NBC affiliate) report entitled “21 men arrested in football-themed child sex sting.”
The article lead continues, “While metro Atlanta was celebrating Super Bowl week, undercover officers were executing a blitz of their own.”
“DEKALB CO., Ga. – Twenty-one men were arrested for allegedly arranging to have sex with a child. The GBI task force announced the arrests that followed an undercover sting that lasted five days, ending on Super Bowl Sunday…”

…………
The CI’s message also contained an image with both the ZUDY and New England Patriots trademarks, with the words “Official AppDev of The New England Patriots.”
This immediately caught my attention because at the time Patriots owner Robert Kraft was being charged in a completely different sex sting.
…………
HN visited “Trish” (AKA Patricia) Kennedy’s Facebook page which is adorned with selfies of her and Tom Brady, along with other members of the Patriots organization. There was a photo of Bill Belichick doing a post-game press conference in front of a Patriots background with logos representing their two major sponsors, Gillette and Zudy.
A visit to Trish Kennedy’s Facebook page impresses one that it belongs to a very successful self-made woman, who is very proud of her software company’s sponsorship of the New England Patriots.
One Facebook snapshot showed Trish Kennedy, her husband, and son having breakfast with Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, Inc..
Reviewing Trish Kennedy’s resume of photos, left no doubt son Mitchell Kennedy is a member of a very prominent Cape Cod family.
HN reached out to at least one TV news desk in Boston and started digging deeper…
………….
Later that very evening, shortly after midnight – March 3rd – HN responded to a single car crash into a tree on Route 137, where the driver had left the scene. The vehicle had heavy front end damage. All vehicle airbags were deployed. A police K-9 unit was called in from Dennis to search the area, but police were unable to locate the driver.
HN posted the story on HyannisNews.com and thought very little more about it…
…………
… until later on March 3rd when HN received another message from its CI. The message included a cellphone image of the Audi sedan involved in that morning’s single vehicle crash where the driver had left the scene, and said, “He’s on Cape… Brewster PD is looking for him… apparently took off…”
HN responded, “I went to that! What a coincidence! Please keep me posted if you learn he’s in custody… there was talk he has an extraditable warrant. If he gets locked up on that warrant, I’ll be able to dig at court… maybe get the arraignment on video.”
The CI replied, “Apparently the warrant was recalled… it was out of Georgia… we know what that was for!! I would assume they issued it in the same fashion they did with Kraft… he probably went in and was released or arraigned… they must not have taken it out of the computer. Maybe a future arraignment date? Do you have access to the Georgia court docket?”
HN replied, “Never have dealt with Georgia. I’m wondering if this needs to be turned over to a Boston news desk. They have resources and affiliates in Atlanta…”
The CI ended the exchange with, “Cape Cod Times mentioned the driver had who is cited… that’s him… I don’t know why he is remaining anonymous maybe it’s the money?”
[Good job CI… and thank you!]
HN called the Brewster Police, they weren’t releasing the name at that time. I indicated the story was bigger than a car hitting a tree… The exchange was congenial, but going no further.
…………..
Later on March 3rd – HN reached out to Cape Cod Times reporter Mary Ann Bragg, indicating the Brewster crash was a much larger story than someone leaving the scene…
… Bragg, a veteran reporter, listened carefully, HN sensed her wheels spinning… Bragg had likely already been tipped off about the situation.
HN, being primarily a stringer/photojournalist, was after photo opportunities and would not have the time this story required to hunt down additional facts. Aside from another news desk, HN left what it knew in Bragg’s capable journalistic hands…
… and as you’ll read, Bragg, likely already knowing what I knew, dug in and hit the ball way out of the park!
……………
March 4th – Mary Ann Bragg publishes story entitled “Son of prominent Cape family arrested in Georgia sex sting…” Bragg had spoken with Patricia “Trish” Kennedy at her Brewster home. In the Cape Cod Times article, Patricia “Trish” Kennedy minimizes her son’s involvement in the sex sting, saying, “Mitchell did nothing wrong… He never left the hotel.”
“I believe in the end that those charges will actually be dismissed,” Patricia Kennedy reportedly said in the Cape Cod Times article regarding the serious allegations against her son.

Meanwhile, Bragg continued to dig…
…………..
March 15th – Mary Ann Bragg’s next story does anything but minimize the allegations brought against Mitchell Kennedy – In the Cape Cod Times story entitled “Police report offers different version of Brewster man’s sex sting – Mother had maintained his innocence; documents contain explicit details,” Bragg lays out some of those alarming details…
“In the Atlanta incident, police allege that [Mitchell Kennedy] made contact with the undercover police ‘chatter’ at 5:11 p.m. Feb. 2 on Skout according to the Brookhaven police report. During the Skout chat, the officer made it known to Kennedy that he was speaking to a 14-year-old, and Kennedy asked her to delete her messages so they would not get in trouble,” the Cape Cod Times article points out.
The Cape Cod Times article continues, “After the officer established rapport with Kennedy, he brought up a reference to sex and said he would be willing to meet and provide alcohol and marijuana…”
Kennedy reportedly made explicit comments about sex and sent photographs, and during a cellphone conversation he appeared to be masturbating, according to the Cape Cod Times report.
The Cape Cod Times report continues, stating an arrest warrant for Kennedy was issued on the charge of computer pornography. Kennedy, along with family members, reportedly turned himself into police the day of Super Bowl. He was released on $11,500 bail.
According to Bragg’s article, Patricia Kennedy, the suspect’s mother, did not respond to a request for further comment…
