SPRING OPENER: Getch-yah needles here!
Top photo: New “OPEN” flag flying high at the 428 South Street needle distribution program. Business appeared brisk when HN met three male clients stopping by for services today, one was in his company’s landscaping truck. HN spoke briefly with the congenial young landscapers and they all agreed about the need to be careful, especially since there has been a rash of overdoses across the mid-Cape in recent days.

Above photo: Sunday evening, Hyannis Firefighters rush to save a young male overdose patient… Anecdotal HN observations are that there may have been a recent spike in overdoses over the past week. Firefighters and police confirm ongoing overdoses, possibly one recent fatal in Barnstable. Another source told HN that the current overdose rate appears to be about the same as it was last year… this all to say that overdoses are in fact ongoing.
HN NOTE: As someone with friends, family, and loved ones who have struggled with addiction, some now dead, while others still fight for their lives (and I don’t think I’m much different from any other HyTonian in this regard), I can say that there is a roller coaster ride of emotions. One often feels powerless, watching people slowly kill themselves… wondering when and if the insanity will ever stop…
… and wondering whether or not Hyannis will ever recover.
But we must forge on and shoot for the skies instead of the mainlines!
In other news:

PHOTO: A man caught a ride from the Cape Verdean Club in East Falmouth to Falmouth Hospital Sunday evening after being shot in the leg, sources say. In the above photo, Barnstable Police searched a home on Pine Street in Centerville after taking a 39-year-old Centerville man into custody. Police were out looking for the man who was said to have left the East Falmouth area driving a white pickup truck, also believed to possibly be armed and involved in the shooting. At the time of this report, the suspect was held for a period of time in police protective custody, but no charges were filed. A Falmouth Police Detective responded to the Barnstable Police lockup to interview the suspect. Police searched for an alleged weapon in a wooded area on Pine Street. No weapon had been found as of the time of this report…

“I’m Not The One”
i’m not the one
that you’ll be shooting for
i’m not the one
who’s coming back for more
you know why
we’ve been through this too many times
you know why
it’s never clear it’s pantomime
going round and round
’cause you can’t get on your feet
going round and round
still taking all the heat
going round and round
never touching down
i’m not the one
whose memory you still keep
i’m not the one
who’s talking in your sleep
you know why
i don’t have to tell you twice
you know why
i knew when you weren’t so nice
i’m not the one
that you’ll be breaking in
i’m not the one
who could be taken in
you know why
i tried and tried to crack the shell
you know why
when you fake it’s hard to tell
