UPDATE – 5/23/2018: According to a police source, last evening’s traffic stop probably looked and sounded worse than it was. At about 10:00PM last evening, a Barnstable Patrolwoman observed a vehicle operating without headlights. The officer initiated a routine traffic stop which wound up in the parking area of a hotel on Route 132. Passengers inside of the vehicle were said to have been uncooperative, which is likely the reason for other additional cars responding to the scene as a precaution. A criminal complaint was issued to a 19-year-old female driver for operating without a license.

It’s uncertain as to why officers were unable to release this basic information last evening.

HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] — As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, shortly after 10:00PM, a Barnstable Patrolwoman initiated a traffic stop which wound up in a hotel parking lot on Route 132. Moments into the stop she requested an additional car to assist. When backup arrived, a patrolman can be heard saying, “Start us more cars…”

Multple patrol units rushed to the scene and officers began doing warrant checks on as many as four passengers…

When HN arrived, hotel guests and passerbys were wondering what was going on. Some had their cell phones out and appeared to be recording video. Four young individuals can be seen walking away from the stop; and according to radio transmissions, as many as one individual was taken into custody and transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters.

Police are not talking. A supervisor working inside headquarters “on the desk” told HN that they did not have any press information available at the time of this report.

It’s uncertain what led up to the traffic stop, whether there were serious charges, or whether the whole thing turned out to be a minor incident after all…
