Taking it to the streets…
Hyannis – Most domestic disturbances reach the boiling point at home, others spill out onto public roadways…
Shortly after 12:30pm Barnstable Police patrol officers were dispatched to Winter Street and surrounding roads for a girlfriend driving and being chased by a boyfriend in what was described as a ‘tan Suburban.’
Some type of handgun was allegedly pointed in a threatening manner according to witnesses in the fleeing girlfriend’s car…
… this revelation got the attention of numerous other police officers in the area.
Barnstable patrol cars along with unmarked SCU units spent several minutes searching the immediate area before locating the suspect they were looking for at 47 Cherry Street, where he was detained in handcuffs while officers tried to sort things out.
The suspect, ‘boyfriend,’ was described as a white male named Taylor, with long hair, facial hair, heavyset, wearing a black t-shirt… officers were confident they had their man (see above photo).
The girlfriend’s vehicle safely met police in the Kentucky Fried Chicken parking area, where the occupants told their side of the story.
Officers were mostly concerned about the alleged threat with a handgun as they questioned the detained suspect and searched the immediate area…
… no gun was found but the tan Suburban was supposedly at a different location and officers needed to follow up… it is still uncertain if any handgun was actually used in this incident.
Radio traffic seemed to indicate the handgun may have turned out to be a silver BB gun… Officers were still investigating and talking to potential witnesses as the suspect was eventually arrested and transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters where he’ll most likely be charged with domestic assault at the very least…
… it’s very possible there will be additional charges and Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
Neighbors described the house at 47 Cherry Street as being volatile in recent months, with loud angry profanities often being heard by the surrounding residents on what historically has been a quiet peaceful street.
Another neighbor who witnessed the drama unfold theorized that today’s high temps could have caused tensions to reach the boiling point.
One veteran patrol officer stated the suspect was someone he was not familiar with, or in other words, someone he doesn’t usually deal with…
Peace was eventually restored… and Hyannis News got to meet responding 4-year-old Lola the drug sniffing undercover K-9… along with her handler, SCU/Mashpee Officer Michael Assad. (Lola’s face is blurred because she’s too cute for words and would be a dead giveaway on future undercover operations… lol)
