Thieves try to outrun cops…
Hyannis – Two males in their early twenties were under surveillance by Sears Loss Prevention officers earlier this evening when they were observed stealing merchandise.
At 5:25pm loss prevention officers followed the two males as they left the store and were heading towards the Route 28 Mercedes dealership on foot.
Barnstable Police were notified and a suspect description was given out to responding squad cars.
At 5:28pm responding police officers were notified that suspects were now running and attempting to hide from Sears Loss Prevention officers.
Multiple police units converged on the area resulting in a foot chase, with each suspect running in a different direction.
Patrolman John Campbell caught up to and arrested one of the males in the parking lot of Thrifty Car Rental on Barnstable Road.
Patrolman Mark McWilliams took down and arrested the other suspect a short distance away.
Both suspects were charged with felonies for Larceny over $250. They were also charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.
The suspects’ names have not been released yet. Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
