VIDEO: Trooper hurt after collision with wrong way driver… extricated after trapped in cruiser…
BARNSTABLE – DEVELOPING – At about 11:35PM last evening, Massachusetts State Police cruisers, along with Yarmouth Police, began responding to the Mid-Cape Highway (Route 6) in the area of Exit 6 for a wrong way driver traveling east in the westbound lane.
One of the first troopers in the area spotted the pickup truck in the area of Exit 6 driving towards him.
There was a collision between the wrong way driver’s pickup truck and the state police cruiser. The trooper radioed there had been a collision and that he was trapped inside of his cruiser.
Barnstable Fire was notified and also responded to the scene. Firefighters began trying to free the injured trooper.
The pickup truck needed to be carefully separated from its point of impact against the trooper’s door. The trooper was then assisted onto a stretcher and transported to CCH.
A source at the scene told HN that the trooper was pretty banged up, but should be alright. Another source referred to the trooper’s injuries as “priority 3,” which indicates his injuries were not life-threatening.
The wrong-way driver was evaluated by rescue while seated in the backseat of a state police cruiser. A second ambulance was called to the scene for the driver, but it’s unknown whether he was transported. It’s also unknown whether or he was under arrest…

UPDATE: Sources say the wrong way driver may have been suffering from some type of medical condition. He was also transported to CCH. It remains uncertain whether he will be facing charges…
