EAST SANDWICH – A 43-year-old Sandwich woman escaped serious injury Monday morning – 3/11/19 – after a turkey crashed through her windshield, according to a Sandwich PD media statement.

The woman was traveling along Route 6A in a Kia Sportage when she collided with the wild turkey shortly before 8:30 a.m..

The turkey was reportedly trying to cross the road. (The police statement made no mention as to why…)

The large bird crashed through the windshield, just missing the driver and completely passing through the passenger compartment before striking the tailgate.

The woman reportedly sustained minor injuries from the broken glass.

The turkey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sandwich Police Department is investigating the crash.
