UPDATED: Two puppies looking for a good home…
Update – 6/28/2014 -11:30am – SUPER NEWS! Butch reports he just found great homes for the last two puppies… One was given to a US Marine who recently returned home to his family! Butch and Ann would like to thank Hyannis News readers for their phone calls and support.
HYANNIS – At about 6:50pm, someone called police to Pet Smart on Route 132 saying that a green van was taking up three handicapped parking spaces and giving out pit bull puppies…
A Barnstable Patrolman responded, met with a young couple, and found they were doing absolutely nothing wrong. He radioed back to headquarters saying the van was not parked in a handicap spot as reported and that the two were not doing anything wrong… He went on to tell dispatch they recently had a litter of puppies and were trying to give them away… and that they had already given two puppies away… He cleared the area, making himself available for a more important call.
It seemed as if someone was giving the young couple in the van a hard time…
Hyannis News arrived and met Butch and Ann, the owners of the puppies… and they proceeded to share the story behind the puppies…
Back in January of this year, their female blue nose pit bull mix gave birth to a litter of seven healthy puppies. They also own the puppies’ father, a pure bred red nose pit bull. Both mom and dad pit bulls are gentle family pets and wonderful parents to their pups…

But as time went by, Butch and Ann realized they had too many dogs and needed to find good homes for at least some of their beloved puppies.
They also shared that recently they were threatened by the local dog catcher with fines once the puppies turned six months old on July 7th. According to them, the local dog catcher said they needed to have all their dogs given their shots and registered by July 7th or he would be back to their home to take action.
Despite their desire to gradually find the proper home for each puppy, they now were faced with a hard deadline and the scary realization that the cost associated with now having nine dogs was far more than they had anticipated. It suddenly had become a bit too much for them to afford…
Butch and Ann did not want to simply take the puppies to the local pound, the dogs were simply too special to them for that.
That’s when they came up with the idea to hit the streets and see if they could find people to show how lovable their puppies were. Heading over to Pet Smart was the logical choice, where else could they find such a large number of people who love and care for their pets…
Under the circumstances, hitting the streets and meeting potential adopters face to face may have paid off more than they anticipated…
According to a recent text message from Butch, there are only four out of the seven puppies left. Of the four remaining puppies, Butch and Ann want to hold on to a male and female… That leaves just two puppies, one male and one female that are still in need of a good home…
All of their dogs are mild mannered and great with young children…

Author’s note: Personally I find pit bulls to be excellent family pets, especially for those with young kids… provided that the owner is able to commit to the training and care it takes to have a happy well adjusted pit bull. They must be walked and they cannot be tied out for long periods. Most of all, pit bulls thrive on lots of love and attention… and they especially need the consistent attention and love of their owners. Do a little online research and you will find out why this breed is an excellent choice for the right committed handler. Basically, pit bull terriers are a “dog lovers” dog, and once you’ve owned one you will likely become a life long enthusiast and ambassador for the breed.
Please adopt all pets responsibly.
