UPDATE (Monday 1/25/16 – Actual YPD press statement):
Man Struck by a Passing Pickup Truck with a Plow Recovering
On Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 9:13PM, the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to the neighborhood of Cottonwood Street and Myrtle Lane in Yarmouth Port for a report a neighborhood man being struck by a passing motorist operating a pickup truck with a plow mounted on it.
First Responders arrived and treated the pedestrian for non-life threatening head, facial, and body injuries and he was subsequently transported by Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital.
Police Officers at the scene determined that the operator of the pickup truck was returning to his nearby home during the height of the storm with poor visibility, high winds, and nearly 12 inches of ice and snow in the roadway. Officers further determined that the operator was not employed by the town of Yarmouth, the plow was up, and was not in the act of plowing the roadway.
The operator of the pickup truck reported that he observed a dog walking in the roadway and then a man waving his arms for him to stop. He further reported that he applied his brakes and tried to stop but slid on the ice and snow and was unable to do so in time.
The dog was snot struck and the pedestrian is currently recovering from his injuries at Cape Cod Hospital. No motor vehicle violations were determined and no citation was issued.

GREAT JOB YARMOUTH!
During this past Winter Storm, the men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department Dispatch Center handled several hundred phone calls and logged 452 police service entries. Some of the 452 entries in the 48-hour period involved the following:
• 10 Motor Vehicle Crashes
• 10 Burglar Alarms
• 5 Domestic Violence Incidents
• 5 Disturbances
• 4 Intoxicated Persons
Despite the treacherous conditions throughout the storm, most people were very cooperative and our Public Safety team of Police Officers and Dispatchers worked very well together and kept everyone protected.
The YPD commends our employees and also thanks the other members of town services such as the Highway, Fire, and Natural Resources departments for helping to keep Yarmouth safe.
Well done everyone!
