Make way for goslings… [Video]

HYANNIS – This was the scene this morning when two young families of Canadian geese decided the grass was greener on the other side of Bearses Way…
Canadian geese are primarily migratory birds and they enjoy munching on fresh green blades of grass… and like humans, geese often find the grass much greener on the other side of the street…
… and so migrating is what these young families often do.
Which is why they often pack up their goslings and risk it all crossing busy streets… in search of that perfect blade of grass…
As for young families of geese, Canadian geese usually find their mates during the second year of their lives.
They are monogamous, and unlike their human neighbors, most couples stay together all of their lives.
It’s natural for them to stay together “’Til death do them part…” If one dies, only then does the other sometimes find a new mate.
The female lays anywhere from two to as many as nine eggs, with an average of five…
Both parents protect the nest while the eggs incubate, and although the female spends more time at the nest, both male and female share in keeping a watchful eye over their young goslings…
Also of note: I find it amazing that families of geese can tie up HyTown traffic while crossing the busiest parts of Route 28 and Bearses Way… and that people don’t seem to mind much when they finally learn what is causing the delay… but…
… unfortunately, drivers are not equally as kind to other humans crossing in those areas.
I’ve personally been flipped off numerous times while still in my truck, attempting to navigate through that part of town… and I’ve often seen drivers hollaring at young pedestrians who dare cross and slow traffic…
… but it’s interesting to note, I have never seen anyone yell at a HyTown goose.
I think it’s because HyTown geese are so “badass” that even the most beligerant drivers find themselves compelled to show them the utmost degree of respect.
Please take a moment to enjoy two “badass” HyTown Canadian geese families that couldn’t give rat’s ass whether they tie up traffic… to them, it’s about the goslings dammit! So lookout! … and make way for goslings. [Press play]
