VOLATILE SITUATION ENDS PEACEFULLY: Distraught man armed with knife finally comes down from tree after 4.5 hour ordeal…
MARSTONS MILLS – Shortly after 10:06 PM last evening, Barnstable Patrol Officers responded to the area of Race Lane and Columbia Ave to find a man in a tree armed with a knife, refusing to come down…
HN arrived on scene at about 10:45 PM and was met by a woman who knew the man very well. She was concerned that he may have been trying to end his life.
A COMM FD ladder truck was on scene and the situation was definitely active and volatile, and could have escalated at any moment.
Officers completely closed down Race Lane to all through traffic in the area of Columbia Ave.
After efforts to get the man to come down, police patrol operations began talking about bringing in a negotiator.
SWAT members and equipment began to show up and apparently took over command of the scene.
Flashing police and firefighter strobes were ordered to be turned off as patrol took a secondary roll by widening the perimeter.
As you will see in the following HN Video containing early shots, the scene went from bright and active, to calm and quiet…
After the following HN Video, HN Live shots document the situation as it unfolded into the early morning hours.
4.5 hours into the ordeal, the situation reportedly ended peacefully – the best of numerous possible outcomes – with the man being transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
