WEST DENNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A 34-year-old woman from Dennis Port is expected to face criminal charges after her Subaru hatchback struck a utility pole on Route 28 near Dennis Fire Station 1 early Sunday morning.
Dennis police and firefighters were called to the single-vehicle crash around 3:30 a.m. Radio transmissions indicated the heavily damaged car may have been trying to flee the scene. Officers were told a young woman wearing a backpack was seen running toward the nearby 7-Eleven. Police later located her and she walked into a Dennis Fire Department ambulance under her own power.
The driver, whose name has not been officially released, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation of what were believed to be minor injuries. Her license had been suspended at the time of the crash, according to police radio transmissions.
An investigating Dennis police officer requested both an accident number and an arrest number, signaling criminal charges are forthcoming. The driver’s identity and the exact charges remain pending official release.
The wrecked Subaru was towed from the scene. Eversource dispatched a utility crew to assess the damaged pole, and a Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit photographed the wreckage. The Dennis Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
