*** WATCH *** Barnstable Cop Suddenly Calls Out Foot Pursuit After Three Males Leap from Rolling RAV4 and Vanish into Woods
BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS – Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a Barnstable police patrolman was checking the Route 132 Park & Ride lot at the junction of Route 6 when he spotted a gray Toyota RAV4 creeping past with heavily fogged windows.
What happened next unfolded in a matter of seconds. Three males dressed in dark clothing suddenly bailed from the still-moving SUV and sprinted into the woods. The unmanned RAV4 kept rolling before crashing into a parked white SUV, finally coming to a stop.
The patrolman immediately called out a foot pursuit over the radio. His initial transmissions were broken and hard to understand, delaying backup by precious moments. Once officers and state troopers realized the location, every available unit raced toward the park-and-ride.
A Barnstable Police drone was launched overhead. Officers flooded the area on foot and by vehicle. Minutes later, one of the fleeing males was captured. He was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile from Hyannis. He was taken into custody and transported to Barnstable Police headquarters on a charge of disorderly conduct. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
A K-9 unit arrived to help search for the other two suspects, who remained at large early Thursday morning.
Investigators are still working to determine whether the RAV4 was stolen. The full circumstances surrounding the early-morning incident remain under active investigation. [DEVELOPING]
