Scooter Rider Smashes SUV Windshield in Hyannis Crash, Hospitalized with Non-Life-Threatening Injuries [Plus Additional HN Briefs & Photos]



HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A man on an electric scooter was injured Thursday evening when he collided with an SUV at the busy intersection of Main Street and Camp Street.
Barnstable Police and a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crew rushed to the scene after the scooter struck the SUV. The rider hit the vehicle’s windshield and was left banged up but conscious and alert, officials reported.
He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The woman driving the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigating officers. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit photographed the damaged SUV and scooter.
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. No further details have been released.

Passed-Out Driver Found ‘Legless’ Behind Wheel of Damaged Mercedes in Hyannis, Trooper Probes OUI: Sources
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A state trooper came across a Mercedes SUV stopped at the intersection of High School Road and Stevens Street and found the adult female driver apparently passed out behind the wheel Thursday evening, sources say.
Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crews responded to the scene for a “priority one” medical emergency. The woman was believed to be highly intoxicated, with one witness describing her as “legless.”
She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. The front passenger-side wheel of the Mercedes was damaged and flattened. The state trooper is investigating a possible Operating Under the Influence charge.

COMM Firefighters Quickly Knock Down Marstons Mills Garage Fire; House Spared
Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters responded to a garage fire on Wheeler Road in Marstons Mills Wednesday afternoon and had the blaze under control in short order. All occupants evacuated safely, and the main house escaped damage. No further details were available at the time of this news brief. 86-Year-Old Man Critically Injured in Vehicle vs. Bicycle Collision
FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – A man riding a bicycle was critically injured Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a truck at the intersection of Route 151 and Sandwich Road in Falmouth. The victim was unconscious and suffering serious multi-system trauma. He was taken to Falmouth Hospital, then flown by MedFlight helicopter to an off-Cape trauma center. Accident reconstruction officers assisted Falmouth Police with the investigation. [DEVELOPING]
UPDATE FROM FALMOUTH POLICE – Friday, 4/10/26:
Vehicle vs. Bicycle Crash Under Investigation
On April 9, 2026, at approximately 3:50 PM, the Falmouth Police Department and Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded to Route 151, just east of the intersection with Sandwich Road, for a reported motor vehicle versus bicycle crash.
Upon arrival, first responders located a cyclist suffering from critical injuries. The individual, an 86-year-old North Falmouth man, was transported by Falmouth Fire Rescue to Falmouth Hospital and subsequently airlifted to an off-Cape trauma center for further treatment.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a box truck and a cyclist were traveling eastbound on Route 151 when a collision occurred. The operator of the box truck remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Officers also interviewed multiple witnesses who saw the collision.
The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is assisting with the investigation. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Mashpee Police Department also responded to assist.
This incident remains under active investigation, and fault has not yet been determined.
