SANDWICH, Massachusetts – [HN NOTES] – The following HN Video illustrates the potential grave dangers and problems surrounding the distribution of illicit Fentanyl, along with the potential recklessness of those who allegedly sell it on our streets.

Just before midnight last evening, Cape Cod Drug Task Force detectives began tailing a vehicle on Route 6. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, detectives reportedly tried to pull the vehicle over in Sandwich. According to radio transmissions, the vehicle did not pull over right away and the occupants (or occupant) began allegedly throwing large bags of drugs out the window onto the highway. You can hear one detective referring to a “cloud of dust,” believed to be Fentanyl. A source later told HN that it was a large amount of powder (believed to be Fentanyl) and there was a big cloud of dust that some detectives inadvertently drove right into.

The vehicle eventually stopped on Route 6 eastbound, at mile marker 61, right after Exit 61 (the old Exit 3). Two males were quickly detained in handcuffs and eventually transported to the nearest police facility for booking.

Investigators were unable to release too many details as it is an active narcotics investigation. There may be a media statement at some point, if possible (sometimes it’s not possible).

HN initially took a position safely away from the stop. The following HN Video shows footage taken through a wooded area, about 40 to 50 yards away. Once the scene was secured, HN was able to get closer to the traffic stop and investigation. This is important because HN can learn about who made the stop and which officials should not be filmed as a courtesy, in order to protect current and future investigations. It’s a give and take, and there’s a lot of mutual trust in order for HN to show the public what is actually happening on our streets.

As you will see up close, the suspect vehicle was covered with white powder. Investigators took great care in safely documenting the powder, believed to be Fantanyl.

For obvious reasons, the following video needed to be carefully edited to protect drug enforcement agents. The video is out of sequence at the beginning, showing HN arriving closer to the stop… in reality, HN did not move in close until the end, once things had been secured.

There were no further details available at the time of this report. But I can tell you that there were no officers or members of the general public badly injured from the alleged Fentanyl dust, although one detective initially wondered if he had been exposed, because he had a brief dazed feeling at one point.

Officers carefully searched the highway for evidence, making sure – as best they could – that no quantities of Fentanyl remained, posing a potential hazard to the public. It appears investigators were able to find all they were about to find. A large amount of the powder flew up into the air and was apparently scattered to all four corners of the earth by passing traffic. If, however, anyone encounters lethargic or unconscious raccoons or coyotes in the area – well, for the love of God, let’s hope not! (I wonder if natural resource officers carry Narcan… maybe they should!)
