*** WATCH *** CREWS BATTLE STRUCTURE FIRE IN DOWNTOWN CHATHAM
CHATHAM, Massachusetts – At around 12:35 a.m. this morning, crews from the Chatham Fire Department and surrounding towns responded to a structure fire at 791 Main Street.
According to Chief Justin Tavano of the Chatham Fire Department, a sole occupant and resident of the building heard smoke detector alarms and managed to escape unharmed. The building is both commercial and residential, with several apartments.
The fire started on the exterior of the building and extended to the interior second floor. The bulk of the fire on the exterior had already been knocked down prior to HN arriving on scene.
As you will see in the following HN Video, firefighters worked throughout the early morning hours chasing down hot spots and active fires in the ceilings, behind walls and inside crawl spaces.
