HYANNIS – Meet “Loaf!”
(see top HN photo, and please pardon the seemingly gratuitous puns when you listen to today’s Hytown Vignette music…)
Loaf was a very, VERY bad kitty-cat last evening because she nearly scared her mom completely out of her wits!
The following HN photos capture Hyannis Firefighters engaged in a distressing rescue attempt, one which caused some very terrifying moments for a young woman who had already been experiencing a very rough day.
As the story goes, the young woman had already been upset about some personal matters and was in the process of moving to a new home (and we all know how much of a royal pain in the arse moving can be, even under the best conditions) when her bad day suddenly took a terrible turn for the worse.
While all packed up and moving in her car, naughty young Loaf decided to crawl up under the vehicle’s dashboard, refusing to come out! This, of course, now made things much worse and even more upsetting for the young woman. Her life was already in transition and her little friend had now completely disappeared into her vehicle’s electronics! And it surely cannot be safe for a 7-month-old kitten to be making her way deeper and deeper into the complicated inner workings of a modern automobile! Right?
The young woman wasted no time trying everything she could think of to save her furry family member. She even tried enticing young Loaf to safety with a freshly opened can of her favorite cat food. But alas, all efforts had failed, and a cry for help was ultimately made to Hyannis Fire & Rescue, to see if anything – anything at all! – could be done. If it meant tearing the car apart, then so be it!
So, late last evening, the Hyannis Fire Department dispatched their Heavy Rescue truck and a team of firefighters to a parking lot on North Street. And they worked diligently for quite a while, trying to somehow reach a tiny kitten they couldn’t even see. They too tried everything. They looked under the hood into the engine compartment. They positioned themselves under the dashboard as best they could, near the gas and brake pedals, while reaching with burly arms, feeling up around into a mess of wires and gadgets… and they too were coming up short handed. Loaf had really worked herself in and showed no signs of wanting to come out anytime soon. It was beginning to look hopeless, and mom appeared to be fighting back tears. How much worse could things get for the poor young woman?
But then, while shivering and terrified, looking pale with fear, mom suddenly looked up to see a firefighter holding a healthy Loaf up and in her direction. She immediately grabbed her baby and held her close. All on scene could feel the relief! It was amazing, the young woman’s energy suddenly changed from pure anxiety to a calm, peaceful joy one only feels whenever they embrace a loved one.
You see, miracles do happen in Hytown!
