*** WATCH *** FIREFIGHTERS ATTEMPT TO SAVE HISTORIC HYANNIS HOME FROM AFTERNOON BLAZE… GROUP OF RESIDENTS DISPLACED ON COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR!
HYANNIS – The fire at 151 Pine Ave was spotted around 2pm this afternoon as flames began shooting through the roofline. All human residents reportedly got out safely but firefighters were attempting to resuscitate a family dog when HN was on scene. The house is said to be the oldest in Hyannis, over 300 years old. According to Wikipedia, “the S. Alexander Hinckley House is a historic First Period house in the Hyannis section of Barnstable, Massachusetts. The 11⁄2-story Cape house was built c. 1710, and is one of a small number of early 18th-century houses in Hyannis… It was also home to Ora Hinckley, the first librarian of the Hyannis Library, around the turn of the 20th century… The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 18, 1987.” One lifetime neighborhood resident also told HN that a judge had once resided there before the current family owned it.
A group of the current residents were all displaced by the fire and officials helped transport them to where they could find temporary shelter during this evening’s frigid temps.
