*** WATCH *** HYANNIS CRASH W/ SERIOUS INJURIES, INCLUDING TRAUMA ALERT FOR 17-YEAR-OLD
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – A total of three patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital last evening. Two patients suffered serious injuries. One of the two seriously injured patients was described as being a 17-year-old with serious leg and hip injuries… and CCH was immediately alerted to an incoming trauma patient. The third patient was in priority three condition.
As you will see and hear in the following HN “video,” at around 7:23 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters responded to Pitchers Way, just south of Wayland Road, for a crash which snapped two utility poles, knocking out power in the area. A large boulder was found in the middle of the road, approximately 75 yards from where it was believed to have been initially seated. (Speed was most certainly a factor…) The vehicle was on fire and a neighbor with fire extinguisher was reportedly able to fight the flames prior to firefighters arriving on scene. A transformer also burst into flames at one point. Residents in the immediate area were told to return inside their homes until the electrical hazards could be dealt with.
Accident reconstruction experts from Barnstable PD and Harwich PD responded to investigate. A member of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted with photos.
Pitchers Way was shut down for the entire overnight as crews worked the scene.
The following HN “video” contains police and fire emergency radio transmissions, along with HN still photos that were taken hours later, after hazards in the area were stabilized…
