*** WATCH *** HYANNIS PATROLS ROLL UP ON “LACERATION, POSSIBLY A STAB” ON WEST MAIN STREET
HYANNIS, Massachusetts – [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] – It was sometime around 2:30 a.m. this morning, in the year 2023… it had been quiet in recent days and I had been studying the inside of my eyelids, in the name of Science. A vivid dream occupied these studies. It was circa 1974 in the backyard of an old friend. There was an empty chicken coop and a gate creaking in the breeze. I had been looking for my friends from those days… many of whom are no longer with us in 2023. I couldn’t find a soul. Everything was strangely empty and fading into a spooky black & white when I was awakened by Bad Company music from the satellite radio speakers – the prospect of several days without this modern-day violence was rudely shattered when a Barnstable Police K9 Unit announced he had just rolled up on an “unknown disturbance” in the vicinity of 657 West Main Street. A sergeant then asked for rescue and additional units. A man was wounded. One of his injuries described as “a laceration, possibly a stab…”
Dammit, a perfectly good dream from the early 1970s wasted, I thought. And I wouldn’t get a chance to see my old friends again after all… and they were never coming back in reality.
The dog was already awake, watching me… watching everything. I reached back and gently pinched her by the scruff, “we’ve got more nonsense,” I told her… as if she didn’t already know. Her tail wagging, she began lurching back and forth, making high pitched crying sounds of joy.
I thought about a reader’s email while making a left onto Main Street. It read:
“The system worked and the person was arrested for deportation. Personally, that is an ‘atta boy’ for ICE. And before there is indignation about a murderer being housed at the base – would it have been better for him to just settle down in Hyannis with no vetting that would catch him at all? The people being housed by the state are NOT the ones we should necessarily be worried about.”
The reader had apparently been reacting to yesterday’s HN headline, “CONVICTED KILLER FROM VENEZUELA ARRESTED AT JOINT BASE CAPE COD MIGRANT HOUSING.” [CLICK HERE] She appeared to have taken issue with perceived indignation about the subject in the comments below the HN Facebook post.
Also feeling a little annoyed and sarcastic about the current state of affairs, I replied:
“I’m all for it! All ‘migrant’ murderers seeking asylum need to be deported by ICE, the sooner the better! … rapists and pedophiles too… Nobody likes when migrant murderers and child predators slip through the government’s dragnet, state or federal. If only the future terrorists – that are predictably already here – would be as cooperative and honest with “the proper authorities.” And thank God this recent murderer was considerate enough to ‘fess up under questioning… God bless him… I’ve always been partial to the “honest killers,” compared to the alternative. Call me “old fashioned” and murderer-phobic… but I’m weird like that… lol
Keep ’em all at the base! Better yet, draft them for the first wave of infantry during the probable WWIII that’s about to touch off. Automatic citizenship for those [who] kill well in the name of justice and the American way… if they survive, of course! (for the “home team” as I think Biden might say… love all his wars by the way… nothing more American than mass bloodshed during an election year!)
I’m not worried. I’ve already learned to cope “under fire” while overseas in lawless countries…. “keep the tourniquets and canned goods ready,” that’s what I say! ;)ᅠ (I only feel bad for the poor kids who are still trying to figure out what pronouns to use… Will they be ready for the hate and mayhem that’s staring down the cold steel, with them in the cross hairs? I hope so…)”
We’re all a bit annoyed these days… and pardon my sarcasm and obvious shortcomings. Like many of you, I sometimes wear my bloodied cross on my sleeve…
… and it’s heavy, man!
But back to early this morning:
A dazed young man stepped from the ambulance, his face bandaged underneath one of his eyes. A folded knife was located underneath a vehicle parked at the entrance to the “Cape Winds Resort.” It was photographed and collected as evidence. The wounded man returned very gingerly to the passenger seat of the vehicle at the epicenter of this morning’s violence. He and his friends were free to go. Nobody cooperated, according to one police source. There would be no arrests. Another officer shook his head at the notion that this morning’s “disturbance” was likely not over yet…
Nobody really knew what it had been all about. But I was almost certain about one thing, that the bloodshed was likely over something extremely asinine and brainless.
