*** NEW DETAILS *** MALE SUFFERING 3-INCH ABDOMINAL STAB WOUND REFUSED TO COOPERATE WITH INVESTIGATION, COPS SAY [HN VIDEO]
NEW DETAILS – THURSDAY, 1/5/2023 – EVENING UPDATE:
According to a report filed by Patrolman John Gardiner of the Barnstable Police Department, at approximately 11:06 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, he was dispatched to Cape Cod Hospital’s “emergency room 3” for a report of a walk-in stabbing victim. Patrolman Gardiner was reportedly also informed about a distraught family member in the waiting room causing a disturbance.
Upon arrival, Doctor Cornwall informed police the victim had presented in the hospital lobby with a 3 inch stab wound to the upper abdomen. Patrolman Gardiner reportedly also learned the victim was in the process of a CT scan, and he was going to be sedated for several hours… and was expected to be going into surgery within minutes.
Patrolman Gardiner reportedly attempted to speak with the male victim prior to surgery, and he repeatedly stated “nothing happened to me, no one did this.” According to the report, the stabbing victim refused to cooperate with the investigation.
Patrolman Gardiner reportedly observed the 3 inch abdominal stab wound prior the victim being sedated and transported to the operating room. The victim’s cell phone, clothing, and black flip-flops were collected and given to a member of the sheriff’s crime scene investigation unit for processing. A bed sheet was also collected for processing.
The victim’s female family member in the lobby was reportedly being “extremely uncooperative” and would not even tell investigators where the stabbing took place. The family member had reportedly received a phone call from the victim, telling her he had been stabbed. The female then picked the victim up from an unknown location before driving him directly to Cape Cod Hospital.
Meanwhile, a Barnstable Police sergeant located a blue 2023 Kia SUV parked in the hospital lot. The vehicle reportedly had a flat front, passenger side time. A cellphone inside the SUV was observed to have bloody fingerprints on its protective case. A BPD detective collected the cell phone from the vehicle’s front passenger seat. As you will in the following HN Video, the phone and bloody case were secured in an evidence bag.
Also in the following HN Video, a driver with Capeway Towing assisted investigators with unlocking the vehicle prior to towing it away.
Investigator checked a couple of residences and other locations but were unable to find any evidence related to the stabbing.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – Members of the Barnstable Police Department found themselves embroiled in a very active and ongoing investigation after a man arrived at Cape Cod Hospital with at least one severe stab wound last evening.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, squad cars arrived at the emergency room after receiving a call from hospital staff. Barnstable Police detectives were immediately requested and involved shortly after patrol officers arrived.
The video shows officers quickly checking an apartment on Yarmouth Road. Officers did not find what they were looking for, according to sources. The video then shows officers canvassing Crocker Street in Hyannis. It’s unknown whether any evidence was located there.
The video footage then returns to the Cape Cod Hospital parking lot where officers had a tow truck operator unlock a vehicle’s door. Once able to enter the vehicle, a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit photographed inside the SUV. At least one item from the vehicle appears to have been bagged and processed as evidence. The vehicle was then towed back to BPD Headquarters.
Police were unable to tell HN too much about the patient’s current condition. The suspect is still at large, and the investigation is active and ongoing. In short, officials were unable to generally comment too much on the case at this time. [DEVELOPING] HN will update this story with official details as soon as they become available.
