WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the occupants of an Audi sedan reportedly fled the scene after crashing into a utility pole on Route 28, at the intersection with Camp Street early this morning.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m., Yarmouth police and firefighters rushed to the single vehicle crash after receiving reports of the pole catching fire.
Upon arrival, first responders learned there was no active pole fire and that the occupants of the vehicle had just reportedly fled the scene, believed to have been possibly picked up by one of two vehicles seen leaving the area…
The Audi came back registered to an individual out of South Yarmouth. Several officers responded to the Long Pond Drive address to investigate…
The crash damaged the utility pole and knocked out power (including traffic lights) to a large part of West Yarmouth. At one point an ambulance with emergency lights activated needed to be stopped, turned around and rerouted. Route 28 was completely closed down at one point while a tow truck worked to remove the wreckage.
The Yarmouth Police is investigating the crash. No further details were available at the time of this report…
HN NOTE: At the time of this report (6:15 a.m.), a low hanging wire caused by the crash was still creating traffic issues for larger vehicles traveling along Rte 28… making the roadway impassable for some vehicles… officials were on scene waiting for utility crews to fix the issue… no word yet on whether police were able to locate the driver responsible for this morning’s crash…
