*** WATCH *** PLAINCLOTHESMEN CHECK BEHIND DARKENED BUSINESS WHILE THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD IS FAST ASLEEP
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – As the story goes, two plainclothes police officers were checking behind darkened businesses along the Route 132 corridor early this morning when they suddenly radioed for backup.
The restaurant had obviously been closed a while, and several Barnstable Police Patrol Officers were already on scene when HN pulled into the otherwise empty parking lot. Two men were detained in handcuffs, one seemingly interacting with officers in faint, almost cordial tones, while the other man was speaking louder, obviously upset and adamant he hadn’t been doing anything.
Several officers appeared to be looking at items set out along the ground near to the handcuffed men, while others appeared to be searching in the area of the restaurant’s fenced-in trash disposal area.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, the louder of the two men abruptly became even more upset and adamant he wasn’t doing anything when he was told he was now under arrest – repeatedly asking, “UNDER ARREST FOR WHAT? FOR WHAT? FOR WHAT?” He was quickly placed in the back of an unmarked police pickup truck, where he could be heard telling one of the patrolmen, “They tryin’ to set me up!”
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit photographed evidence that appeared to be on the ground next to the fenced-in dumpster area. The evidence was then placed into a brown paper bag by one of the plainclothes officers.
Both suspects were transported back to BPD Headquarters to be booked on drug related charges, according to radio transmissions and sources on scene.
HN was also informed that a quantity of apparent illicit drugs had been collected as evidence. The substance appeared to possibly be either “crack” or cocaine, according to the source.
Additional details regarding what led up to the arrests were unavailable at the time of this report. HN will provide official updates as they become available…
The following video highlights the scene as HN arrived near-to-the end of the ongoing investigation.
* HN NOTE: The initial details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions and information on scene. The defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
