*** WATCH *** VEHICLE CRASHES AFTER POLICE TERMINATE PURSUIT…
HYANNIS – A fleeing vehicle crashed shortly after police terminated a pursuit early this morning.
Shortly after midnight, a Barnstable Police patrolman radioed he just had a car “take off” from him in the area of Route 28 and Old Strawberry Hill Road.
The vehicle had reportedly been speeding and driving erratically. During the pursuit, the vehicle allegedly ran through at least one stop sign.
The patrolman eventually terminated the pursuit when the vehicle began to increase its speed to well over 60 miles per hour while traveling north on Old Strawberry Hill Road. Moments later, an officer reported the vehicle had crashed on Old Strawberry Hill Road, just before the intersection with Route 132. The vehicle was unoccupied.
A Yarmouth Police K-9 unit responded to assist in tracking the driver who had fled on foot.
As you will see in the following HN Video, officers encountered 3 individuals out walking about one block from the crash. One male was arrested on two warrants, one for a restraining order violation, the other for a domestic assault. The other two individuals were detained at first, but eventually released. (Note: As you will see in the video, the K-9 appears to have tracked to the vicinity of where officers encountered the three individuals…)
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit took photos and dusted for fingerprints inside the crashed suspect vehicle.
Officers discovered blood on the hood, indicating that an occupant had been injured.
The investigation into who was driving is active and ongoing. The male arrested nearby for warrants was still being held in custody at the time of this report. It’s still uncertain if he was involved in the pursuit.
