*** WATCH *** WOMAN ACCUSED OF DRUNK DRIVING AFTER LEADING POLICE ON SLOW-SPEED PURSUIT ON JUST THREE TIRES
WEST BARNSTABLE – At around 8:02 p.m. last evening – Monday, May 15, 2023 – Barnstable Police were dispatched to Route 6A in the vicinity of the Sandwich line for a complaint of a vehicle traveling into town on just three tires. The vehicle was also reportedly smoking.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, a Barnstable Police patrolman quickly caught up to a vehicle traveling eastbound into town on just three tires. The officer, a trained observer, had a pretty good hunch he had located the vehicle in question and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Moments later, a high-pitched siren could be heard wailing over the radio as the patrolman announced the vehicle was not stopping. Speeds climbed to 11 MPH as the pursuit continued toward the center of West Barnstable.
The pursuit was brief. Eventually ending when the driver finally stopped a short distance prior to Maple Street. Additional officers were on their way.
When HN arrived, the adult female driver could be heard protesting that there was nothing wrong with the way she was driving. The patrolman obviously disagreed.
After being checked out by a West Barnstable Rescue crew, the woman was placed under arrest and transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking.
Cherith Kay Buckley, 70, of Barnstable, was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Stop for Police.
