*** WATCH *** YOUNG WOMAN AIRLIFTED AFTER BEING BADLY HURT IN SINGLE-VEHICLE YARMOUTH CRASH…
WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – At about 1:25 a.m. this morning, Yarmouth and state police responded to the Rte. 6 on-ramp at Willow Street (Exit/mile marker 72) for a single vehicle crash into the woods. Yarmouth FD also sent two ambulances for two patients. Firefighters used a chainsaw to cut around the Mercedes so they could reach the female passenger still inside the vehicle. The female passenger appeared to be in her twenties. Responding police officers were told she could not feel her legs. She was suffering serious trauma, according to radio transmissions. She was loaded into a Yarmouth FD ambulance and transported directly to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis. From Hyannis she was airlifted by Medflight to an off-Cape trauma hospital.
The driver was able to self-extricate, was walking around, and was eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The on-ramp to Rte 6 needed to be completely closed down. A large piece of guardrail was mangled and bent into the roadway… and was blocking part of the travel lane.
The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Yarmouth Firefighters and Police assisted on scene.
