Witnesses say driver was speeding before taking out pole, trees, sign posts, fencing… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – Two witnesses told HN they were behind the driver when he took off at a high rate of speed from the traffic lights at Barnstable Road and Winter Street. All of a sudden the Toyota pickup left the roadway, crashed through a telephone pole, a sign post, two trees, and a fence.
Witnesses said it sounded like a bomb exploded and were even more surprised to see the crash victim out walking around.
The accident victim was treated in the back of an ambulance and transported to CCH. His injuries were not serious according to sources.
Police and rescue had arrived on scene shortly after 7:00pm last evening. Police shut down Barnstable Road between Grove Street and Center Street for most of the evening as NSTAR crews worked to repair the damaged pole and wires…
While investigating the scene, Barnstable officers secured two pellet rifles that were found amongst the wreckage.
One police source thought the driver could have been traveling as fast 80 MPH. The driver will likely be charged with Operating to Endanger at the very least…
The accident is under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department.
