RANDOM SHOTS: Drug epidemic rages on… while first responders fight to snatch souls back from its clutches…
HYANNIS PHOTOS – It wasn’t unusual to tally 5 or 6 daily overdoses in the greater Hyannis area this past week. Some survived, while others did not…
Top photo: Police, rescue workers, and firefighters discovered a man in cardiac arrest in the basement of a Hyannis home Monday evening. It was an apparent drug overdose and firefighters needed to remove a window due to the tight quarters. The man was lifted out of the basement through the window and rushed to an awaiting ambulance. A CPR compression device, called a “LUCAS Machine,” was strapped to his arms above his chest in an effort to keep his heart pumping. (Sources report the man did not survive.)
Heroin overdose at Kalmus Beach…

Hyannis Rescue and police rushed to Kalmus Beach in Hyannis to help a man in respiratory failure who was unconscious behind the wheel of his Toyota this past weekend. A friend of the patient immediately called police after he observed the patient turning blue after taking a lethal dose of heroin. HN spoke with the patient’s friend, a young man in his mid-20s who has been fighting his own battle with heroin addiction. He was still shaken from the overdose, but relieved rescue workers were able to successfully administer Narcan inside the ambulance and save his friend’s life. The friend said he has been ‘clean’ lately, but it’s a constant battle. When asked about his thoughts on a solution, the friend spoke of the need to get the word out about the current deadly epidemic. He also explained the problem for most addicts is that it’s difficult to stay clean when their friends and family continue to actively use.

Woman called police after stranger entered home and laid down on her couch….

HYANNIS – At about 4:30pm this past Saturday, police responded to a residence on Chase Street after an intoxicated woman entered someone’s home and laid down on their couch.
The homeowner called police and reported the woman appeared disoriented.
Police arrived and stopped a 20-year-old woman as she suddenly decided to get up from the couch and make a break for it. The young female told police, “I’m just trying to get to my friend’s house.” A Barnstable Patrolman quickly reminded her that would have been perfectly fine had she not decided to enter the home of someone she didn’t know…
The woman was handcuffed and transported to BPD Headquarters in protective custody. (It’s uncertain at this time whether she received additional charges…)

HYANNIS – Police arrested another young woman in a separate incident after she allegedly smashed out her neighbor’s window with a rock. The suspect is known to police and there appears to be some sort of ongoing tensions at the Main Street apartments in the Hyannis East End…
Santa sighting…
HYANNIS – Santa Clause made an appearance and despite his busy schedule was able to chip in parking cars on Ocean Street this past weekend…

HYANNIS – This past Friday afternoon, Patrolman Joe Cairnes paid a visit to the rear of the Baybridge Club at the corner of Main Street and Center Street where he met a man with warrants from the court. Cairnes gave the man a lift back to headquarters where the man was provided accommodations until he could be taken over to see a judge.
