YARMOUTH COPS: BOSTON GANG MEMBER CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING AFTER NEARLY 50 GRAMS OF COKE FOUND STUFFED DOWN HIS UNDIES
WEST YARMOUTH – According to police reports filed in Barnstable District Court, this past Monday, October 10, 2022, at around 6:04 p.m., a plainclothes K9 officer assigned to the Yarmouth Police Department’s PAC unit – a unit that focuses on the interception and prevention of street level narcotic activity – was pulled over, monitoring traffic on Route 28 in the area of Bakers Square, near the Yarmouth/Barnstable town line. About this time, a “newer model black BMW” reportedly drove past the officer’s unmarked cruiser, traveling east. The plainclothes officer was reportedly unable to see the occupants inside the BMW due to heavily tinted windows. The darkness of the tint reportedly appeared to be darker than what is legally allowed in the state of Massachusetts.
A computer check revealed the vehicle’s license plate had been run about 50 times recently, mostly by officers working for the Boston Police Department. The vehicle reportedly came back registered to Raveena Jaghoo from Cambridge, Massachusetts. And according to sources, Ms. Jaghoo has a history of past firearm charges.
The plainclothes officer reportedly activated his cruiser’s blue lights and air horn in attempt to conduct a traffic stop…
The plainclothes officer’s report continues as follows:
“I was 3 cars back at this time. The 3 vehicles in front of me pulled over and the BMW continued east on RT28 at a slow speed. Once directly behind the BMW, I continued to activate my siren and air horn while my blue lights were activated signaling the BMW to stop. The BMW continued down RT28 while other vehicles pulled over to the side. Several times, the BMW went around vehicles that were pulled over due to my emergency lights and siren. Speeds were approximately 15 MPH. The BMW then pulled into the Yarmouth Gardens and continued through the lot, stopping about 75 yards into the parking lot. The BMW had many safe opportunities to pull over safely.
Based on my training and experience, I know this type of driving behavior to be used as a stall tactic so individuals inside the car can reach for or hide weapons or narcotics. This type of driving and not stopping right away gives individuals time to formulate a plan.
Once the vehicle stopped, I exited my cruiser and drew my pistol and kept it behind my back at the low ready. This was done as a result of the above driving behavior, my personal knowledge of Raveena as well as the heavily tinted glass preventing me from seeing inside. I walked behind my cruiser and approached the passenger side of the car. The window rolled down as I approached. I immediately recognized the front seat passenger as Derrick Tavares. I am familiar with Derrick […] from a past 94C arrest and know him to be a verified CP2 [Charlame Park II] gang member out of Boston. I also know Derric to have multiple arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. As I approached the window, Derric’s right hand was in front of him down by his feet. Once Derric saw me, he abruptly placed his hand on his leg. [Yarmouth police patrol officer Willis then reportedly arrived as backup.]
Fearing Derric had tried to reach for a weapon, I reached into the car and opened the door while asking Derric to step out of the car. Derric immediately stuck his left hand into his front pocket and said something to the effect of fuck that. I grabbed Derric’s hand and pulled it out of his pocket. Ofc. Willis who was standing on the drivers side ran over to assist. Ofc. Willis and I both continued to yell “stop resisting, show me your hand and get out of the car” Derric continued to resist our attempts to remove him by shifting his body weight and twisting from side to side. Derric was seat belted at this time, I had to reach in and [unlatch] the seat belt. Derric was eventually removed and placed in handcuffs behind his back. Derric was advised he was under arrest for disorderly conduct. Ofc. Cheung, Ofc. Samuels and Sgt Carchedi arrived.
During this time, the driver, Raveena Jaghoo exited the car and started yelling and screaming at us. Reveena was given multiple warnings to step back and to stop interfering. Reveena continued to scream, yell and distract us. Reveena was then placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and failure to stop…”
………………
Raveena Jaghoo also received a citation for a window tint violation, according to police reports.
Back at Yarmouth Police Headquarters, in the booking area, narcotics dog Guage reportedly alerted to the presence of drugs hidden in the crotch area of Derric Tavares. Tavares was strip searched and officers reportedly located “a clear bag containing multiple smaller clear plastic bags” containing a white rock-like substance hidden inside the suspect’s underwear. Using a Tru Narc spectrometer, the white rock-like substance allegedly tested positive as approximately 49.06 grams of cocaine.
Derric Tavares Jr., age 25, currently residing in a West Yarmouth apartment (according to booking information), was charged with Trafficking Cocaine 36 – 100 Grams and Disorderly Conduct.
Tavares was arraigned Tuesday, October 11, 2022, in Barnstable District Court. He was held in the Barnstable County Correctional Facility until Wednesday, October 12, 2022, when he was released after posting $15,000 cash bail. Tavares is scheduled to be back in Barnstable District Court for a Probable Cause Hearing on November 15, 2022.
