INITIAL HN REPORT:
YARMOUTH – [DEVELOPING] – At around 3:00 a.m. this morning, police were on the lookout for a green Ford F250 work truck just stolen from behind Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
According to sources, Yarmouth Police Officers responded to the high school and learned that one of the school’s pickup trucks had just crashed through a chain-link fence before fleeing in an unknown direction.
Officers in the surrounding towns were updated that the stolen truck should have “Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School” stickers on the side. They were also told the truck should have significant front-end damage.
Yarmouth Police, assisted by the Massachusetts State Police, fanned out and began checking surrounding streets in Yarmouth.
About an hour into the caper, a Harwich patrolman spotted a green F250 pickup truck with front end damage and no license plate turning onto Chase Street from Route 28 in their town. Upon closer inspection, Harwich officers observed that it appeared as though the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School stickers had been peeled off… and according to radio transmissions, there was a crumpled up license plate in the back.
Yarmouth police were advised of the stop. They then sent an investigating officer to the scene in Harwich, confident it was the stolen truck in question.
As you will see in the following HN Video, the driver of the stolen truck had been detained by the Harwich police. The investigating Yarmouth Police Patrolman who had just responded to Harwich then took the driver into custody after a brief period of questioning.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also responded and began processing the stolen vehicle. The truck was towed on a flatbed back to YPD Headquarters for further processing.
The driver of the stolen truck was transported back to YPD Headquarters to be booked on charges related to being in possession of a truck which had just been stolen. The YPD are looking into to the possibility of accomplices and the investigation remains very active and ongoing.
Check back for official updates. The following HN Video highlights the recovery of the stolen truck and the arrest of an individual allegedly involved in this case…
