UPDATE – 12/1/2014 – YPD press release:
YARMOUTH POLICE CAPTURE DRIVE-BY SHOOTER
On Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 9:50PM, Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Connor Burnham and his Field Training Officer partner Gordon Gibbons were conducting a motor vehicle stop in the area of Winslow Gray and Joshua Baker Road in West Yarmouth when they heard several gun shots.
The Officers immediately cleared from the stop and responded to 18 Scrimshaw Lane as numerous 911 calls began being received at Yarmouth Police Headquarters regarding a report of gun shots fired at the residence.
Officers Burnham and Gibbons arrived at the residence with fellow Patrol Officer Paul Mellet and found a red Ford F-150 on the front lawn, still running. Outside of the vehicle was a male, later identified as the homeowner, yelling and screaming in the front yard. Inside the residence was his wife, and two young sons ages age 6 and 4.
Officers entered the house and began to speak his wife and found the two young boys still hiding under the kitchen table. The husband and wife reported that no one was struck by the bullets but that she had a small piece of glass in her eye.
After securing the scene, both parties immediately informed officers that they believed that Flavio Gambarotto-Santa was responsible for the shooting based on past incidents in Hyannis involving inappropriate gestures and language.
Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit and as well as Yarmouth Police Department Detectives Scott Lundegren, Christopher Kent, and Chris VanNess arrived on the scene and conducted and active follow-up investigation.
A Barnstable Police Department K9 unit also was deployed to assist with a search for evidence. Initial investigation showed that bullets hit the front door and another hit just below the front bay window.
On Monday, December 1, 2014 at approximately 0:135AM the suspect was positively identified from a photo array presentation conducted at Yarmouth Police Headquarters by Yarmouth Police Detectives.
At approximately 9:00 AM Yarmouth Police Department Detectives captured the suspect as he arrived at Barnstable District Court for an appearance on an unrelated previous crime. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth for booking.
After the completion of the booking process, the suspect was transferred to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment on two charges of attempted murder.
