Yarmouth police and firefighters rush to RFK group home for report of juvenile lighting fires, endangering himself and others… [HN PHOTOS/AUDIO]
SOUTH YARMOUTH – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN photos/audio presentation, at about 10:15 p.m. last evening, police and firefighters rushed to the RFK adolescent group home at 137 Run Pond Road for a report of a “child lighting fires,” endangering himself and staff.
It’s uncertain if there was an active fire when firefighters arrived on scene… but a juvenile male was escorted from the residence by police, apparently handcuffed, before being transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
Neighbors of the residential program approached HN asking what had happened, obviously concerned about the alarming response, which included multiple police cars, an ambulance, and a fire engine. Run Pond Road is part of a thickly settled family neighborhood.
According to their website, the RFK group home, officially called the “Cape Cod Adolescent Treatment Center” in South Yarmouth, “provides services in a group home setting that include crisis intervention; individual/family therapy and respite to youth ages 12-17 from the Cape and Islands. Youth are referred by the local area Department of Children and Families. They are working through a range of issues including substance abuse, truancy, domestic violence and aggression. The Center is a safe, encouraging environment in which youth have the opportunity to overcome challenging circumstances. Services are also offered to youth and families as they transition from the program back into the community.”
The following brief HN presentation has highlight photos from the scene, including actual police radio transmissions. HN will provide official updates as they become available.
