A Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance transported the patient to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, where a helicopter airlifted him to an off-Cape trauma hospital, possibly in Rhode Island, according to radio transmissions.
At the scene, a Yarmouth Police sergeant called for an accident reconstruction team and requested a department detective respond. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also arrived to take photographs.
The area of the crash is currently under road construction. The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
