YPD: Drunk driving suspect has two prior OUI convictions in Minnesota
The following is the actual Yarmouth Police Department press statement:
YARMOUTH AND HARWICH POLICE ARREST 3RD TIME DRUNK DRIVER
On Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 7:49PM, two Harwich Police Officers in a Harwich Police cruiser observed a vehicle operating erratically in Yarmouth as they were returning to Harwich after [bringing] a prisoner to the Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Department.
The Police Officers observed the vehicle crossing over the center lines, operating dangerously, with the potential of a head on collision.
The Police Officers notified Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and conducted a stop of the vehicle on Willow Street near Higgins-Crowell Road in West Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers Andrew Coville, Justin Haire, and K9 Patrol Officer Michael Kramer arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation which included Standardized Field Sobriety Testing of the female operator.
Based on the observations of dangerous driving, an interview, and the failure of all of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests:
• Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus
• Walk and Turn
• One Leg Stand
• Preliminary Breath Test
The female was placed under arrest by Patrol Officer Coville and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.
During the booking process, it was determined the female was heavily intoxicated and had two prior OUI convictions in Minnesota. After the completion of booking, she was released from custody by the Civilian Bail Commissioner and is in court today for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court.
The Yarmouth Police Department commends Harwich Police Officers Brendan Bickley and Derek Dutra for— taking quick and decisive action that prevented a serious crash and protected members of the community—and subsequently led to the arrest of a three time drunken driver.
