NO BANG FOR THE BUCK: Local cops were looking for U-HAUL van with $14,000 in fireworks…
HYANNIS – According to a Barnstable Police Press Release, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshalls Office tipped off the Hyannis Fire Department regarding a U-Haul van full of fireworks heading our way.
Two young adult females were transporting a large purchase of fireworks worth thousands of dollars back to Hyannis.
The females were driving a rented U-Haul cargo van.
The Barnstable Police Patrol Division was informed at roll call. Members of the Barnstable SCU were also on the lookout.
An investigation turned up the make, model, and vehicle registration.
Radio transmissions indicated the value of the explosive cargo could be as much as $14,000.
Area police departments were also notified regarding the cargo van.
At approximately 7:00pm, members of the Massachusetts State Police located the cargo van traveling east bound on Route 6 between Exit 4 and Exit 5. The vehicle was stopped and the operator was identified as Kayla F Majors, age 24, of Marstons Mills. The passenger in the van was also identified and is a 24 year old resident of Hyannis.
The van contained a large amount of fireworks with an estimated value in excess of $7000 dollars. (It remains uncertain whether there is another half of the cargo still out there, one also worth about $7000, possibly off-loaded prior to the traffic stop on Route 6… sources were originally looking at the possibility of seizing twice the amount.)
The fireworks were seized, transported back to the Barnstable Police Department, and secured.
Majors will be summoned into Barnstable District Court for Illegal Possession of Fireworks.
HN briefly spoke with Majors and her friend in the lobby of BPD Headquarters and she said they were planning on having a party for the kids… They were waiting in the lobby while the police unloaded their rented van. The women left the BPD with an empty rental van and sad looks upon their faces.
The two were very congenial while speaking with HN. Hopefully they will be able to salvage the rest of their weekend with activities that will not draw the attention of law enforcement.

Photographs and press information was provided by Barnstable Police Luitenant John F. Murphy.
