BLUSTERY OVERNIGHT: Hyannis Notes and Photos

ABOVE: A woman took offense at being asked to leave a popular Hyannis watering hole early Saturday. Police radio traffic said the bar called her in for trespassing. Officers skipped the charge and put her in protective custody for intoxication instead. She tried to resist two strapping young Barnstable patrolmen. They cuffed her and stuffed her into a nearby cruiser. No charges — just a night in the tank.

ABOVE: Yarmouth police dispatch was watching the Bayview Beach camera when a vehicle began driving in circles on the sand. Patrol officers found an adult male driver at the scene, and rescue was called for a medical issue. A Portuguese-speaking Massachusetts state trooper responded to help with translation. The driver’s vehicle had fresh damage on all sides, possibly from a nearby crash. Barnstable police were asked whether they had any hit-and-runs in town; they did not. The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. His condition was not known. At the time of this report, police said no criminal charges had been filed.

ABOVE: Last week, a group out for the night in downtown Hyannis returned to their parking space and found that a hit-and-run driver had slammed into their parked SUV, leaving it undrivable. The jerk fled in a dark-colored pickup. A second vehicle was damaged in the same strike. Barnstable police are investigating.

ABOVE: Last week, police stopped to have a word with a man accused of spitting at people in downtown Hyannis. The talk may have done the trick. He walked away quoting Scripture, and police did not have to deal with him for the rest of the evening.

ABOVE: Last week, police arrested a local man accused of assault and battery on a woman on Main Street in Hyannis. She was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.
