The following is the actual official BPD press statement related to the above footage and incident:
On September 18, 2017 at approximately 6:33pm, Patrolman Kevin Fullam attempted to stop a vehicle in Hyannis that was driven by Angel Robinson III (age 24 of Yarmouth) for multiple motor vehicle infractions. Robinson refused to immediately pull over and continued driving into the Cape Cod Mall parking lot. While following the suspect vehicle, Fullam observed Robinson lean over and reach for the glove box area of the vehicle.
Eventually, Robinson stopped in the vicinity of Macy’s. Robinson subsequently fled from the motor vehicle into a wooded area and dove into a pond. A loaded 9mm firearm was located in Robinson’s vehicle along with a large amount of cash and a small amount of narcotics.
A perimeter around the pond was established and maintained until Barnstable Police Detectives arrived on scene with the Barnstable Police Department Drone. After a brief grid search of the pond the FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) camera mounted on the drone was able to locate a heat signature coming from the edge of the water. This heat signature was determined to be Robinson. He was fully submerged with just his head sticking out of the water along the densely wooded area at the water’s edge.
Officers were able to close in on Robinson’s location and order him out of the water. With Officers and Police K-9 units surrounding him as well as a police drone hovering overhead, Robinson surrendered his position and was taken into custody without further incident. Robinson was charged with Operating a MV With Unnecessary Noise, Operating w/out Number plates, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
