CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Officer latches onto alleged bike thief after he rode down the middle of Route 132…
HYANNIS – Hyannis man allegedly stole a bicycle on Main Street and then was spotted by HN driving down the middle of State Highway Route 132.
Barnstable Police Officer Katie Ross latched onto him in the Cape Cod Mall parking lot. The suspect had been previously banned from the mall property.
The entire sequence of events was caught on HN dashcam video.
Jason Dilleree, age 34, of Hyannis, was arrested and charged with trespassing for being on the mall property. He will also likely be charged with offenses related to the stolen bicycle. The incident was still under investigation at the time of this report and no further details were available.
The following video shows Dilleree recklessly riding the bike wearing dark clothing in the dark roadway. He could have easily been struck or caused some type of accident. HN followed slowly and carefully behind Dilleree with hazard lights flashing to warn oncoming traffic and alert police. The suspect is well known to HN and police. He has a history of substance abuse and can be danger to himself and others. Fortunately, nobody was harmed during this evening’s events.
